JCPenney Shuttering 39 Stores

Doors to close in April

JCPenney Co. Inc. (Plano, Texas) has announced it will close 39 stores on or around April 4.

The retailer typically completes its annual store review after the holidays, when it decides which sites to keep and which ones to phase out, reports Women’s Wear Daily. While no other store closures are currently planned for 2015, a spokeswoman said the company is “constantly evaluating its store portfolio.”

In addition, the company has no store openings planned for 2015, the spokeswoman said. JCPenney’s last store to open was in Brooklyn in August.

About 2250 store associates will lose their jobs as a result of the closures. After the closures are completed, the retailer will operate 1020 sites across 49 states and Puerto Rico.
