Canadian apparel brand Joe Fresh has opened a 9800-square-foot at 110 Fifth Avenue and 16th Street. The location marks the retailer’s first freestanding unit in the U.S. and will be followed in the spring by an 18,000-square-foot flagship at 510 Fifth Avenue and 43rd Street, reports Women’s Wear Daily.

The Canadian brand, which is sold in 330 Loblaws and Real Canadian Superstores, was created by Joseph Mimran, founder of Joseph Mimran & Assoc., five years ago. Mimran also launched Club Monaco in 1985 before selling the brand to Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. in 1999.

“We try to belie the price,” says Mimran, reports WWD. “There are a lot of players in this niche. We want to give [Joe Fresh] a voice.”

Joe Fresh operates more than 300 stores in Canada and sees the potential to open 300 to 500 locations in the U.S. Last month, Joe Fresh opened stores at Bridgewater Commons in Bridgewater, N.J., and the Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, N.Y., and launched pop-up shops on Madison Avenue and 34th Street.
