Kmart Runs First Holiday Ad

Retailer jumps the season with promotion for its layaway program

Kmart has officially kicked off the holiday advertising season.

On September 9, 105 days before Christmas, the retailer – the Troy, Mich.-based subsidiary of Sears Holdings Corp. (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) – ran a TV ad promoting its layaway program. The ad features a gingerbread man sneaking up on a woman working in an office cubicle and a voiceover that says: “Don't let the holidays sneak up on you. Shop early with Kmart free layaway. … Kmart. Get in, get more Christmas.”

Last year, reports Advertising Age, Kmart ran its first Christmas commercial on October 28.
