Lord & Taylor to Open Outlet

According to Women’s Wear Daily, Lord & Taylor will enter the outlet market with its first discount location. The 15,000-square-foot store will be located in Jersey Gardens outlet center in Elizabeth, N.J.

WWD reports that officials with the upscale department store chain will use the location as a test that could lead to additional stores.

Lord & Taylor joins a growingly competitive landscape, where such retailers as Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue operate Nordstrom Rack and Saks Off Fifth, respectively. Recently, Neiman Marcus ceo Burt Tansky said his company’s Last Call outlets were outperforming its regular stores and more outlets would likely be added to the fleet of 28 units.
