Marks and Spencer (London) announced this week its “firm intent” to enter key cities in China, including Beijing and Guangzhou, over the next year, reports Women’s Wear Daily.

As part of a portfolio overhaul, the British retailer also plans to close five smaller stores in the greater Shanghai region by August.

In addition, the company says it will modernize some existing units, including its flagship store on West Nanjing Road in Shanghai and its stores in Hong Kong, which involves expanding its food store portfolio at travel and city locations in Hong Kong.

M&S also plans to open a 10,800-square-foot store at The Venetian Mall in Macau, China.
