McDonald’s Corp. (Oak Brook, Ill.) has announced that its chief operating officer, Tim Fenton, will retire in October and that position will be eliminated.

Going forward, cfo Pete Bensen will assume oversight for the worldwide supply chain, development and franchising functions; and global chief brand officer Steve Easterbrook will take over strategy, social responsibility, sustainability and philanthropy.

Fenton, a 41-year McDonald’s veteran, has asthma and, the company said, is retiring to focus on improving his health. “I simply cannot continue to meet the global travel demands of this position,” he said in the statement.
