McDonald's Corp. (Oak Brook, Ill.) reported global same-store sales increased 5.1 percent in May, down from 6.9 percent in April.

In the U.S., the world's largest hamburger chain reported same-restaurant sales were up 2.8 percent. Results were aided by the introduction of new coffee drinks and snacks, but still couldn’t compete with April’s 6.1 percent sales growth.

In Europe, same-store sales rose 7.6 percent in May and 6.4 percent in the Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa regions. In April, these two regions saw same-store sales rise 8.4 percent and 6.5 percent, respectively

The stronger dollar (which lessens the dollar value of overseas sales) led to an overall drop in sales at worldwide McDonald's restaurants. Sales rose 7 percent in constant currencies.
