New Balance to Sell 3-D Printed Shoes

Launches program in Boston stores

Published

Shoe brand New Balance Athletic Shoe Inc. (Boston) unveiled it will begin selling shoes with 3-D printed midsoles next year. The midsole, which provides support and shock absorption, will be the only wholly 3-D printed feature on the shoes.

The Boston Globe reports the 3-D printed shoes will reportedly deliver the same comfort and performance as traditionally made shoes, but the midsoles will be made with a specialized elastomeric powder to allow for laser melding.

New Balance has chosen Boston stores to launch the new products, but has not yet announced which stores will carry them.
