Enjoys solid 1Q gains

Nike Inc. (Beaverton, Ore.) has reported an 18 percent increase in revenues for its first quarter ended Aug. 31, 2004. Net income jumped 25 percent.

“We’re off to a great start,” said chairman and ceo Philip Knight. “Our first quarter revenues reached record levels driven by strong results around the world and across all our brands. These results reflect both the strength of our brands and our ability to execute across our portfolio of businesses.”

U.S. revenues increased 12 percent, with U.S. athletic footwear revenues increasing 12 percent. Apparel revenues increased 13 percent. Equipment revenues increased 11 percent.
