Old Navy to Steam into Japan

Move part of Gap Inc.’s expansion in Asia

Gap Inc. (San Francisco) is gearing up to launch its Old Navy chain in Japan, The Wall Street Journal reports. John Ermatinger, Gap's president of Asia Pacific, said in an interview that said “discussions are along quite a long way” for bringing its lower-priced Old Navy chain to Japan. “We are very bullish. It's not a matter of if we do it. It's a matter of timing.”

Gap is also readying the launch of its e-commerce site in Japan, and plans to open 11 stores this year in the fast-growing Hong Kong and Chinese markets.
