Payless Doubling Super Stores

Closing other stores

Published

on

Payless ShoeSource (Topeka, Kan.) announced that it has plans to close between 350 and 500 of its regular retail stores over the next year.

These closures, though, are a proactive move, reports Footwear News. They are a consequence of the retailer’s shift to open more Payless Super Stores, which are larger than its typical store and offer a bigger array of products.

Payless opened its first super store in 2012 and now has more than 60 locations. Within the next five years, it plans to double that amount.

Consequently, as those stores increase in number, the company will close some of its smaller, regular stores, which currently number 4400.
