Retailer reports significant third quarter growth

RadioShack Corp. (Fort Worth, Texas) announced a healthy earnings increase of nearly 30 percent for its fourth quarter 2000 ending September 30. The consumer electronics products retailer reported earnings of $77.1 million this year versus $59.8 million in the third quarter of 1999. Total quarterly sales for the company were $1.14 million in 2000, up from $960.3 million in the same quarter in the prior year.

“All year long, consumer demand for digital products has driven RadioShack's business, enabling us to achieve solid top line and bottom line growth in all three quarters of the year,” commented Leonard Roberts, chairman, president and ceo of RadioShack Corp. “The key pieces of our Home Connectivity strategy are in place, and we now have the ability to offer consumers all things Internet — encompassing a broad array of products and services. Our stores will be featuring MSN service via dial up connectionsand DSL (digital subscriber line) or satellite high-speed connections, and Excite@Home high-speed service via cable. New Internet devices and in-home installation will complete the RadioShack consumer offer.”

RadioShack Corp. claims to be the nation's largest consumer electronics retailer in the United States, with more than 7100 stores and dealers and both on- and off-line shopping.
