Retailers in India closed their doors today to protest the recent admission of foreign chains, including Walmart (Bentonville, Ark.), to the country, The Washington Post reports. Local store owners fear being put out of business by low-price chains, and told the The Post they do not believe job growth will make up for lost sales.

Individual states in India will still be allowed to decide whether or not to allow foreign retailers.
