The space showcases an updated format

Saks Fifth Avenue (New York) is opening its second store in New York today. Located in Lower Manhattan across from the World Trade Center, the new store is six miles from the company’s other flagship and features a new store design.

The new 86,000-square-foot store is an effort to update and modernize the department store format, reports Fortune. For instance, it will feature a monthly installation that spotlights a specific designer as well as “Power Lunch” events that provide customers with a style consultation, beauty treatment and lunch all within the span of one hour. The new store, 514,000 square feet smaller than its other flagship, will feature a tightly edited assortment of products, emphasizing up-and-coming brands and will provide personalized service for its customers.

“It’s de-departmentalizing the department store – you should feel like you’re in a boutique,” said Saks Fifth Avenue President Marc Metrick.
