Senior Exec Flees Saks

Max W. Jones, senior vice president and general merchandise manager of men's and cosmetics for the Proffitt's/McRae's store group within Saks Inc., has left the Birmingham, Ala.-based retail organization to join Goody's Family Clothing, Inc. (Knoxville, Tenn.) as executive vice president of merchandising. Jones had previously been president and ceo of Herberger's, the St. Cloud, Minn.-based chain of department stores purchased by then-Proffitt's, Inc., in 1997 and folded into the Carson Pirie Scott headquarters in Milwaukee in May of this year. As executive vp, Jones was one of a number of highly placed executives who reported directly to Toni Browning, president and ceo of Proffitt's.
