Sports Authority to Open 11 New Stores on Saturday

The big boxes throughout the country will average more than 40,000 square feet

The Sports Authority Inc. (Englewood, Colo.) has announced plans to open 11 new stores in eight different states this coming Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008.

The new stores, each averaging more than 40,000 square feet, will debut in Kansas City; Tucson; Phoenix; Austin, Texas; Hiram, Ga.; Gainesville, Va.; Rockwall, Texas; Fort Collins, Colo. and Amherst, N.H., plus two in Omaha, Neb. The big-box sporting goods retailer said it plans to open a total of 37 new stores throughout the country this year.

“Our goal is to be aggressive in meeting the need and demand for our products and services throughout this country,” said Sports Authority president David Campisi. “We have already established ourselves as the pre-eminent sporting goods retailer in these markets, and the growth opportunity continues to be attractive. We're excited about expanding our footprint and look forward to success in every one of these stores.”
