Target Corp. (Minneapolis) is launching a new service that will provide same-day delivery of grocery and household items to customers in its Minneapolis hometown. The service, offered through Instacart Inc. (San Franscisco), will be available starting at $3.99 per order. The retailer hopes to expand the service to other cities in the future.

According to Bloomberg Business, this service is an effort to get in on the online grocery industry, which is expected to grow 9.6 percent annually through 2019. It is also an alternate to the Amazon Fresh grocery service currently offered by Amazon.com Inc (Seattle) and the upcoming grocery service that Google (Mountain View, Calif.) plans to announce later this year.
