Vacates due to rising rental costs

Toys”R” Us (Wayne, N.J.) will close its flagship store in New York’s Times Square today, Dec. 30, 2015. The company decided not to renew its lease on the space due to rising costs of rent. Gap and Old Navy (San Francisco) stores are expected to fill part of the vacated space in the future, reports CBS News.

At four stories tall and 110,000-square-feet in size, it is the world’s largest toy store and included a 60-foot-tall Ferris wheel as well as a an animated 20-foot-tall Tyrannosaurus rex.

The company expects to relocate the store to a new location in the vicinity, though a new location has not yet been determined.
