U.S. Online Holiday Spending Up 12 Percent

Amounts to $17.5 billion during first 35 days of the November-December period

Consumers spent $17.5 billion online during the first 35 days of the November-December holiday season, a 12 percent increase over the same time last year, according to marketing research company comScore.

The most recent week included four individual days with spending over $800 million, and Cyber Monday was the highest online spending day on record, at $1.03 billion.

Tuesday, Nov. 30 saw spending over $911 million, with Wednesday’s spending checking in at $868 million and Thursday’s at $850 million. Fifty percent of transactions during the period included free shipping, though growth rates subsided during the latter half of the week.
