Vermont Country Store Ceo Steps Down

Will leave company at year’s end

Vermont Country Store (Manchester, Vt.) ceo Bill Shouldice has announced his plan to leave the company after seven years. The company, which has been family owned for three generations, plans to continue its policy of hiring a ceo from outside its ranks. Brothers Cabot, Gardner and Eliot Orton will remain involved in the company.

“We believe that our best opportunity for continued success is for another leader outside our family to take over the daily responsibilities and accountabilities as ceo,” says Eliot Orton. “We know that’s unusual, but we’ve done things differently for 66 years, and it works for us.”

Shouldice plans to explore opportunities for entrepreneurship in Vermont as his next venture.
