Spanish retailer Zara chose Chicago for the opening of its largest U.S. store to date, debuting on Michigan Avenue in a 17,500-square-foot site that replaces a Talbots women's clothing store.

Inside the three-story location, women's clothing is featured on the first and second floors, with children's on the second floor, and men's clothes on the third floor.

Jesus Echevarria, chief communications officer for Zara, describes the store as “a dream, like a gift” that’s aimed at understanding the type of fashion a Midwestern shopper wants.

Owned by Spanish-based Inditex Group, Zara designs clothes based on the latest runway shows and gets them into stores within two weeks through its tightly controlled manufacturing and distribution process.
