Macy’s to Close 100 Stores

Will pivot more toward digital shopping

Macy’s (Cincinnati) has announced it will close 100 of its 728 stores by early 2017.

The closings are a result of a shift in shopping habits toward more digital and discount shopping. The company plans to offer a “vibrant omnichannel brand experience,” reports The Washington Times.

The company reported that nearly all of the stores to be closed are cash flow positive today, but their volume and profitability in most cases have been declining steadily in recent years. It did not specify which stores would close.
