This light-bending, avant-garde installation, created by SoftLab (New York) for Melissa Shoes’ SoHo, New York, boutique, was inspired by the upscale footwear brand’s winter collection, dubbed Star Walker. The asymmetric structure’s form takes cues from the exquisite beauty of geological crystals, and its geometric aluminum frames – comprising upwards of 400 custom-cut pieces – are adorned with iridescent kaleidoscope panels fashioned from dichroic acrylic film, generating more than 50 unique cells that change color and reflectivity depending on the viewer’s vantage point.
