IKEA (Leiden, Netherlands) has announced plans to open its first store in Indiana. The retailer submitted plans for approval of a 296,000-square-foot store to be located approximately 15 miles northeast of downtown Indianapolis in the suburb of Fishers.

According to a press release, plans include building the site on 35 acres along the eastern side of Interstate 69 and paving for 1000 parking spots. There is potential for the store to utilize its own on-site power generation, as it does at many other store locations throughout the country.

Pending approval, construction on the store could begin as early as next summer and an opening date in fall 2017.

The nearest IKEA stores are in suburbs outside Cincinnati, Ohio and Chicago.
