Michael Kors Planning Large-Format Stores

New Broadway store first to feature men’s collection

Michael Kors’ (New York) newest and largest store, which opened last month alongside neighbors Uniqlo and Topshop, on Broadway in New York, marks a new, broader retail format for the designer that will be duplicated in future openings.

The 22,000-square-foot, three-story space is the first to feature the Michael Kors men’s collection, which occupies the store’s first floor. Designed by the company’s in-house team, the space features mid-century furniture, a pool table, chevron flooring in gray oak, gray marble display cases and black embossed leather wall coverings. The women’s spaces are brighter, featuring mirrored surfaces, metal fixtures and vintage Murano glass “Sputnik” chandeliers.

Kors told Women’s Wear Daily that several larger format stores are slated to open in the next year in international cities, such as London, Stockholm and Tokyo. “These stores will give us the opportunity to highlight and expand upon categories we’re especially focused on right now, specifically the men’s business and women’s footwear and ready-to-wear,” he said.
