American Apparel Names New Chief

Colleen Brown has turn-around experience

Published

on

American Apparel Inc. (Los Angeles) has appointed Colleen Brown chairperson, making her the fifth woman to fill five of the company’s seven seats. Former co-chairs Allan Mayer and David Danziger will remain on the board. Mayer and Danziger are the only holdovers from the American Apparel board that famously moved to oust founder Dov Charney in July.

Brown joined the American Apparel board in August, after the company signed a new financing deal. Charney was officially fired last week after a months-long investigation of misconduct, according to Women’s Wear Daily. Brown is credited with facilitating turn-arounds at other large companies. She most recently served as ceo of media group Fisher Communications Inc. (Seattle).
