Kroger (Cincinnati) is working on a deal to potentially purchase some of the Walgreens (Deerfield, Ill.) and Rite Aid (Camp Hill, Pa.) stores that will be divested to complete the acquisition process of Rite Aid by Walgreens.

According to Cincinnati Business Courier, Kroger is just one of multiple buyers looking to buy up some of the divested stores. Walgreens and Rite Aid need to divest between 500 and 1000 stores. Fred’s Pharmacy (Memphis, Tenn.) is also set to purchase a “substantial” number of the divested stores.

The deal is expected to be finalized by the end of the year, though none of the retailers have provided comment or confirmation.
