New Crew Member

Tracy Gardner, executive vp, merchandising, planning and production, comes from Gap

J.Crew Group Inc. (New York) has appointed Tracy Gardner executive vp, merchandising, planning and production, effective in early March. She will report to chairman and ceo Millard Drexler.

Prior to joining Crew, Gardner was senior vp of men's and women's Merchandising for the Gap brand (San Francisco), Drexler's previous company. She began her career in fashion merchandising at Neiman Marcus (Dallas) and Saks Fifth Avenue (New York). She later served for four years at Lands' End (Dodgeville, Wis.), first as a divisional merchandise manager and ultimately as general merchandise manager of adult apparel. She subsequently served as vp of both men's and women's merchandising at Banana Republic (San Francisco).

Separately, the company has announced that Scott Gilbertson has resigned as coo, effective Jan. 31, 2004. He is expected to return to Texas Pacific Group, J.Crew's majority shareholder.
