Home Depot consolidates two eastern divisions, names new executive

The Home Depot (Atlanta) has announced plans to consolidate its New England division (currently located in Canton, Mass.) with its Eastern division, headquartered in Atlanta. The expanded division will support more than 600 stores.

The move comes after what the home-improvement retailing giant said was a successful consolidation of its Southeast and Mid-Atlantic divisions last fall. “We have made substantial improvements in our operations and execution,” said chairman, president and ceo Bob Nardelli.

The company said the consolidation would not result in any store closings. In fact, it said it plans to add 10 new Home Depot stores in the New England area, including five stores in Massachusetts.

The merchandising and core support functions that had been in Canton will be moved to Home Depot's South Plainfield, N,J., office.

Dan Kneip, formerly the New England division president, has been named to a new position, senior vp. business process improvement, and will relocate to Atlanta.
