The 13 new Boston-area stores that Kohl's Department Stores (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) had announced it was working on will all open on one day, Friday, April 12, 2002.

The new stores are located in Burlington, Mass.; Chelmsford, Mass.; Hingham Plaza, Hingham, Mass.; Meadow Glen Mall, Medford, Mass.; Milford Shopping Plaza, Milford, Mass.; Nashua Mall, Nashua, N.H.; Crossing at Fox Run, Newington, N.H.; North Andover Mall, N. Andover, Mass.; North River Plaza, Pembroke, Mass.; Plaistow, N.H.; Rockingham Mall, Salem, N.H.; Walpole, Mass.; and Woburn, Mass.

“Kohl's expansion into Boston marks an exciting new chapter for the company,''said ceo R. Lawrence Montgomery. “The area has high growth potential and a strong concentration of families with children, making it a perfect match for Kohl's innovative concept of a family-oriented store that offers great brands and a convenient shopping experience.”

The retailer says these units will have the wide aisles, open layout and centralized checkout that Kohl's stores have lately become noted for.

The new Boston-area stores are part of a national expansion strategy, as sales have grown 25 percent in four years. Kohl's currently operates 420 stores in 32 states.
