Computer-maker reaches 50-store milestone

Apple Computer (Cupertino, Calif.) opened its 49th and 50th retail stores in the U.S. this past weekend, with new locations in Emeryville, Calif., and Denver.

The company now has stores in 24 states.

“We're thrilled to have reached our 2002 goal of 50 retail stores in the U.S. in time for the holiday shopping season,” said Ron Johnson, senior vp of retail.

Apple's new SoHo store in New York, which opened in the fall, was named winner of VM+SD's new New York Store of the Year award (large-store category) for 2002. It will be honored during Store Concepts Winter 2002, in New York Dec. 5-7, 2002.
