Goody's Family Clothing (Knoxville, Tenn.) announced that president and chief merchandising officer Lana Cain Krauter has resigned. Krauter, who joined Goody's in 2000, will remain with the company until her contract expires in January. During that time, she will continue to help on special projects, including the proposed sale of the retailer to a private equity group, which was announced in September.

In the interim, chairman and ceo Robert Goodfriend and executive vp of merchandising Max Jones have been appointed to handle Krauter's responsibilities.

Goody's, a retailer of clothes, shoes, accessories and gift items for the family, operates 329 stores in 18 states throughout the Southeast and Midwest. In September, the company reported total sales for the fiscal month of $91.4 million, a drop of 8.8 percent from last year. Comparable-store sales for September 2002 also declined, dropping 9.4 percent from the same period last year.
