Starbucks Opens Mobile-Only Café

Its first mobile-only café will open this week in its Seattle headquarters

Starbucks (Seattle) announced that it will be opening its first store that will only accept orders placed and paid through its mobile app. The store will be located in its Seattle headquarters and will replace an existing store there.

The new store concept allows the company “to test new concepts for managing changes in traffic and study the effects the new feature is having on its business,” reports Retail Dive. In some stores, the Mobile Order & Pay feature has caused congestion issues, particularly at peak-hour times.

According to Fortune, all mobile orders for the building (including the headquarter’s employee-only café elsewhere in the building) will be routed through the new store. It will include a large window where customers can pick up their orders and watch drinks as they are made.
