Fannie May Confections Inc. (Chicago) has begun opening the first of its 47 retail locations. Yesterday, the company opened its first store near Chicago Ridge Mall in Oak Lawn. The first 100 customers in the store received a free one-pound box of Fannie May candy as a gift.

“We're proud and excited to be back, carrying on the Fannie May tradition for future generations, with stores opening in time for the holidays,” said Alan Petrik, executive vp and general manager of Fannie May Confections Inc. “Each store will have a broad array of chocolates, just like our loyal customers remember. You'll still be able to hand-pick assortments of candy and fudge at the counter. And we'll have longtime favorites pre- packaged, like The Colonial Box, Buttercreams, Caramels, Pixies, Mint Meltaways and Trinidads.”

The rest of the returning retail stores will open in the coming weeks, leading up to the grand opening of the landmark Fannie May location at Wacker Drive and Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago on November 19.

All 47 Fannie May stores are expected to be open for business by the November grand opening. The company announced that aside from locations across Chicagoland, it will open two locations in Wisconsin and four in northwest Indiana.

Pre-packaged Fannie May Candies, such as Pixies, Mint Meltaways and Trinidads, also continue to be available through retail outlets like Jewel, Dominick's and Walgreens.
