Airport Retail Taking Off

Atlanta airport to review anxious retailers' bids for space

Published

on

Dozens of retailers are waiting in line for a space at Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport. According to a list compiled by airport officials, more than 140 companies have inquired about retail space openings at the airport since the last official bidding for space took place in 1996. The waiting list includes Samsonite, Staples, Sunglass Hut,Chik-Fil-A and Buffalo's CafŽ.

Officials say the bidding process will also change. Previously, the space went to vendors willing to pay the highest rents. In future bids, the airport will be looking at other factors, such as the company's plans to attract airport customers and for assuring customer satisfaction.

According to the Airports Council Intl., more than 78 million passengers moved through the Atlanta airport last year.
