Discount grocer ALDI (Batavia, Ill.) will celebrate the opening of its 1000th U.S. store, located in West Haven, Conn, next week. ALDI has been steadily growing and now has locations in 29 states.

“Now, more than ever, shoppers are looking for ways to save on their grocery bill without compromising on quality,” says ALDI president Jason Hart. “ALDI is a common sense solution for smart shoppers.”

More than 90 percent of the discount grocer's products are sold under its ALDI select brands that are manufactured by many of the nation's leading food producers and sold for less than at traditional supermarkets. “As important as price is, there's only one way to attract and keep the diversity of shoppers we have – you have to have great products,” says Hart. “Our growth is a testament to our popularity with consumers and the loyalty we enjoy once people become our customers.”

ALDI opened 100 new stores in 2008, including locations in Rhode Island and Florida, and expects to add more than 80 locations in 2009. Parent company ALDI Group is Germany's leading grocery store chain with more than 3000 stores under the ALDI, Hofer, and Combi names.
