Apple Reaches Agreement for New Global Flagship

Plans to open store in Washington, D.C.’s historic Carnegie Library

Apple (Cupertino, Calif.) is in talks to open a global flagship store in Washington, D.C.’s historic Carnegie Library at Mount Vernon Square. The company has reached a tentative agreement with Events D.C. (Washington, D.C.) to lease the space, though terms and specifics were not specified. The Events D.C. board is expected to approve the letter of intent at its next meeting.

The company would renovate the 113-year-old building with the help of Foster + Partners of London (London). The 63,000-square-foot store is expected to be similar in design to that of the Apple flagships in London and San Francisco. Foster + Partners also designed the company’s San Francisco global flagship, which opened last May and features a 42-foot wall of glass windows, indoor live trees and a backyard gathering place. It is also powered completely by renewable energy, reports Washington Business Journal.
