Albertson’s Inc. (Boise, Idaho) has announced it will be exiting the greater Omaha, Neb., marketplace immediately with the disposition of 21 stores — 11 food and 10 drug stores located in Omaha, Bellevue and Grand Island, Neb., and Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The grocery retailer has entered into definitive agreements for the sale of five Albertsons stores in Omaha and Bellevue to No Frills Supermarkets (Omaha); the sale of six Albertsons stores in Omaha and Grand Island to Bag ‘n Save (Omaha); the sale of one Osco drug store in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Hy-Vee Inc. (West Des Moines, Iowa); and the sale of prescription files for nine Osco drug stores in Omaha to Walgreens (Deerfield, Ill.).

The program is part of Albertson’s previously announced plan to exit markets where it is not Number One or Two or sees no near-term path to get to a leadership position.
