Barnes & Noble (New York) has named Demos Parneros as its new ceo. Parneros, who has been coo for the past five months, will replace Ronald Boire, who was let go eight months ago. Boire was ceo for less than a year.

In the interim between Boire’s departure and Parneros’ official promotion, Leonard Riggio has delayed his retirement and has been acting as ceo. Rigio purchased the company in 1971 and built it into a national chain, reports The New York Times.

Before joining Barnes & Nobel, Parneros was a top executive at Staples (Framingham, Mass.).
