William Watts named board’s executive chairman

Brookstone Inc. (Merrimack, N.H.) has appointed William Watts as the company’s new executive chairman of the company’s board of directors, effective immediately, according to the company.

Watts was formerly a partner at J.W. Childs Associates since 2001 and was previously the president and ceo of GNC from 1991 until 2001. He currently serves on several retailers’ boards including Mattress Firm and Murray’s Discount Auto Stores. Brookstone’s former ceo and president, James Speltz, has been appointed to director of the company, while Jackson Tai resigned as the non-executive chairman of the company, but will remain on its board of directors.
