Roberto Cavalli to design new Playboy uniform

Playboy Enterprises Inc. (New York) has announced that fashion designer Roberto Cavalli will undertake the first reinterpretation of the iconic Playboy bunny costume in more than 25 years.

Cavalli will launch his new bunny look for the Playboy venues at the new tower of the Palms Casino Resort & Spa (Las Vegas). The new look is expected to be worn by select Playboy bunnies alongside the traditional bunny costume worn by other models

“The Bunny costume has undergone only modest changes over the years, so as to maintain its identity and special character,” said Playboy chairman and ceo Christie Hefner. “Roberto Cavalli is the perfect designer to reinterpret the magic of the original design as he too embraces the good-life, inspires an aspirational lifestyle for a jet-set crowd and of course celebrates beautiful women.”

The original Playboy bunny costume was the first service uniform to be granted a trademark registration by the United States Patent Office and was introduced with the first Playboy Club in Chicago in 1960. It has been worn, in its original and updated versions, by more than 25,000 Playboy bunnies. The original sits in the permanent collections of both the Chicago Historical Society and The Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

Cavalli was named 2002 Designer of the Year by the Fashion Group International.
