Burberry's New Digs

The London retailer opens New Bond Street flagship

London's Burberry luxury goods retailer opened a 16,000-square-foot flagship recently on New Bond Street. The location places the store near such high-end counterparts as Donna Karan, Louis Vuitton, Polo Ralph Lauren, Chanel, Gucci and Prada. In that respect, the new location is a change from previous flagships, located on Regent Street and in Haymarket, where those deluxe brands are few and far between. The strategy already seems to be working. Rose Marie Bravo, Burberry ceo, claimed sales in the store's first two days beat all the other Burberry's London stores'sales during any given non-sale period.

The new store design is the work of British architect Mark Pinney and American architect Randall A. Ridleff. The team gutted the former arcade and brought the store to street level. Classical features include a portico, Portland stone, English oak, limestone, and leather. Custom fixtures include 30s- and 40s-style sofas and a David Linley oak table with a Burberry plaid inlay.
