C. Burch Closing All Stores

Fate of brand unknown

Published

on

Christopher Burch and his firm Burch Creative Capital (New York) are closing the remaining 11 C. Wonder stores, citing fierce competition in the women’s fashion, accessories and home goods markets.

“The retail environment is highly competitive and it saddens me that the company is taking these necessary steps today. I want to personally thank the departing C. Wonder employees for their invaluable contributions,” Burch said Tuesday after laying off all 100 of its staff on Monday, according to Women’s Wear Daily.

Burch, the ex-husband and former business partner of fashion billionaire Tory Burch, launched C. Wonder in 2011 and operated as many as 32 stores at one time. It is not yet known whether Chapter 11 will be filed or if Burch will try to salvage the C. Wonder brand or its licenses.
