New NCR technology at FMI could speed up the grocery store process

Published

on

NCR Corp. (Dayton, Ohio) will unveil its newest self-checkout technology at the Food Marketing Institute (FM) MarkeTechnics show in New Orleans this week. The system, known as “SCOT,” allows video technology capable of running promotions, specials or other customer information; pay-by-touch fingerprint recognition in lieu of debit or credit card transactions; radio-frequency, wireless, hand-held scanners that eliminate the need to lift heavy “bottom-of-the-cart” items to the checkout clerk's reach; and integrated surveillance software that more quickly deactivates anti-theft tags.

NCR currently has self-checkout installations or plans for installation with 26 food and general merchandise retail customers, including Albertson's, Kmart and Shop Rite.
