Kenneth Cole nixes expansion plans for SoHo store

Kenneth Cole Productions (New York) has decided against making a 15,000-square-foot expansion on its SoHo store in New York. Stanley Mayer, the company's cfo, says that in light of the September 11 attacks, “the project is no longer appropriate.”

The expansion would have taken place in two phases, adding first a 5000-square-foot addition, followed by another 10,000 square feet. “We're going through all of our leases and seeing what kinds of opportunities lie ahead for us,” Mayer said.

Kenneth Cole Productions sells clothing and accessories under the Kenneth Cole New York, Reaction Kenneth Cole and Unlisted brand names. The company markets its products to more than 4100 U.S. department and specialty stores and opened its own 17,500-square-foot flagship store in New York's Rockefeller Center earlier this year.
