CONCEPT: Felix Roasting Co.’s fifth café – sporting a subtle color palette of pink and green pastels and dark turquoise – recently opened at 280 Park Avenue in New York, seeking to elevate a daily cup of coffee with a touch of luxury.

  1. Living Color
Felix Roasting Co. aims to provide a refuge for New Yorkers to unwind, through “the antithesis to the industrial styling of café culture,” according to Ken Fulk, whose namesake design firm crafted the café’s aesthetic. “Instead of live-edge wood, concrete and steel, we envisioned a luxurious, elegant and highly aesthetic café that would elevate the ritual of the daily coffee.”
  2. RAY OF LIGHT
At the center of the café is an oval coffee counter, highlighted by a metallic dome hanging above with its interior sporting a painted shining sun against a blue sky. For this opulent vibe, Fulk and his design team were “inspired by the aesthetic movement of the late 19th century and the grand cafés of Europe.”
  3. STEPPING STONES
The classically inspired mosaic featured on the floor surrounding the coffee counter features the company’s logo while incorporating hints of biophilia and Felix Roasting Co.’s signature soft greens and pinks.
  4. FORCE OF NATURE
Floral motifs are on view throughout the 1500-square-foot space, including in the wood details, which display patterns of vines and flowers. Custom arabica flower wallpaper paired with bouquets of fresh flowers for table settings provide New Yorkers a touch of nature in an urban jungle.
  5. PAINT A PICTURE
On the walls are framed Impressionist style artworks, which are slightly altered to fit the café’s design – for example, the woman at the center of John Singer Sargent’s “Nonchaloir” is now surrounded by the café’s custom floral wallpaper. These slight alterations create a seamless blend of art and architecture, and keep guests company as they sip their drinks.
