Swingframe Inc. (Freeport, N.Y., access frames and display products manufacturer) has named Craig Abrams as marketing director. Abrams will be responsible for integrating current and new products into sales materials and catalogs. The company also hired Brian McAuley as IT director.

Hermes Abrasives Ltd. (Virginia Beach, Va., abrasive products manufacturer) has promoted Ken Lamay to national sales manager, responsible for all sales and marketing efforts in U.S. and Mexico.

The McCulley Group (Solana Beach, Calif., visual communications firm) has named design director Jeff Haack partner. Haack joined the firm in 2001.

burdifilek (Toronto design firm) has been retained by Holt Renfrew (Canadian retailer) to redesign the ground floor of the luxury retailer's flagship on Bloor Street in Toronto. The renovation project is expected to be completed by September.

Little Diversified Architectural Consulting (Charlotte, N.C., architectural consulting firm) has been named one of eight great places to work by Interiors & Sources magazine. The firm was recognized for its mentoring programs, competitive salaries, employee paid time off and “quality of life” initiatives.

A 25,000-square-foot retail development has opened in the new International Terminal A-West at Philadelphia International Airport. Tenants include Swatch, Brookstone, Duty Free by International Shoppes, Hudson News, Travelex, Euro Café, McDonald's and Cibo Bistro.

ActiveLight (Seattle plasma and LCD display solutions distributor) and Kayye Consulting Inc. Kent Displays (Kent, Ohio, cholesteric liquid crystal display technology manufacturer) has licensed its cholesteric “No Power” LCD technology to Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. (Osaka, Japan, consumer electronics products manufacturer).

LightShow/West 2003 (San Francisco trade show and conference) has put registration for its conference on its web site at www.lightshowwest.com. Starbucks Coffee Co. (Seattle retailer, roaster and brand of specialty coffee) received a 2003 BEST (Business for an Environmentally Sustainable Tomorrow) Award from the Business and Industry Resource Venture, a partnership of the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce and Seattle Public Utilities. The award recognizes Starbucks' energy conservation initiatives, including retrofitting lighting and designing efficiency into new stores.

The Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education (New York endowment fund) awarded the following grants and awards at its annual luncheon at Lightfair International: $20,000 grant to RPI's Lighting Research Center (Troy, N.Y.) for development of a Ph.D program in lighting; $20,000 grant to Parsons School of Design (New York) to develop a curriculum that studies influences of light in the built environment; Edison Price Fellowship to Carolyn Freeman of La Roche College (Pittsburgh, Pa.); and the Jonas Bellovin Scholar Achievement Award to Stephen Horner of Parsons School of Design (New York).
