Mark Breitbard, the ceo of childrenswear retailer Gymboree (San Francisco), is stepping down.

He joined the brand in 2013 after serving as president of San Francisco-based Gap North America, executive vp of GapKids and babyGap, and chief merchandising and creative officer of Old Navy (San Francisco), reports Chain Store Age. His resignation goes into effect when a new ceo is found. He will step in as chairman of the board Feb. 1.

"I have given serious thought to the evolving needs of The Gymboree Corporation as an organization, and I believe this is the right time for the board of directors to identify a new ceo to lead the company forward as we continue to focus on the strategic plans for our brands," Breitbard said.
