Private equity firm acquires Container Store chain

Published

on

The Container Store (Coppell, Texas), a 39-unit Specialty retail chain, has been sold to private investment firm Leonard Green & Partners (Los Angeles).

Leonard Green & Partners has major investments in several other retail companies, such as Petco Animal Supplies Inc. (San Diego) and David's Bridal Inc. (Conshocken, Pa.). Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the new owner said it intended to keep Container Store's current management team. Many of those executives will sit on a new six-member board of directors, including ceo Kip Tindell, president Melissa Reiff and chief merchandising officer Sharon Tindell.

“We're excited about what the future holds for everyone involved,” said ceo Tindell, “as we continue to deliver our brand of retail and look forward to making everything about our great company even greater.”

Container Store sells home-organization tools, like boxes, shelving and storage products. It currently has two new stores planned, in Denver and Cherry Hill, N.J.
