The year’s best seasonal displays: Part I of V




This year’s holiday windows departed from old traditions and embraced branded storytelling in lieu of pine trees and tinsel. Browse the annual recap in the upcoming February 2014 issue of VMSD and be sure to check back throughout the week of January 27 for Parts II-V of this online review.

1) Value City Furniture, Columbus, Ohio.  A collaboration between Value City Furniture, American Signature Inc., SBC Advertising and ZenGenius resulted in windows that conjure familiar holiday symbols via familiar displays. 2) Liverpool, Mexico City, “Christmas Wishes.” These windows feature teardrop-shaped props, representing wishes that were made, came true and have fallen from the sky. 3) Bergdorf Goodman, New York, “Holidays on Ice.” What if every holiday throughout the year was icy? That’s what Bergdorf’s windows encapsulated this year, with a set of nine windows, each depicting a different holiday in a frozen diorama. 4) The Container Store, New York, “Dressed for Joy.” These windows feature garments created from the retailer’s own gift wrap, which was designed and created by employees from its Manhattan and California stores as well as its Dallas headquarters. 5) Hugo Boss, Chicago, “Explosion of Gifts!” Like its namesake, these windows showcase an explosion of holiday gifts – white boxes wrapped in chrome ribbons. Design: Hugo Boss. Photography: Courtesy of Hugo Boss, New York.


6) Lord & Taylor, New York, “Give the Gift of Lord & Taylor.” Inspired by vintage New York, these scenes strive to capture the city’s history of tradition. In order, the windows showcase a story beginning with excitement surrounding the holidays, preparations for celebration and ending with customers from Lord & Taylor shopping for gifts and readying themselves for holiday parties. 7) Ann Taylor, New York, “Ann Taylor Holiday 2013.” The inspiration behind these vignettes was the idea of aspirational holiday wish lists derived from the Ann Taylor 2013 holiday collection.
